Looking Back….. Looking Forward…..

Our Association, that was formed in 1951, would soon be celebrating its Platinum Jubilee Year. Mr. Mayur Parekh, the present editor of GST Review have requested me to penned down my nostalgic instances and about the developments in the past, vis-à-vis the Association.
As I look back, the Sale Tax Department during the period prior to construction of the present Vikrikar Bhawan, was scattered at different places in the city of Bombay (now Mumbai). The Commissioner used to have his office on the 1st floor of Swadeshi Mill Compound, at Opera House, while the some of the other sections were working at Mohta Market, 4th Floor, near Crawford Market. Yet other sections were working at a building behind Piramal Chamber in Parel. The offices of wards from Kurla Onwards used to work at Vashi. The furniture like chairs, cupboards and tables were taken by the government on hire from the contractors. The appellate authorities.......
