Editor : 2001-02, 2002-03 Selected Editorial : August 2001 Means of increasing revenue The greatest concern of today for our Finance Minister as well as the Commissioner of Sales Tax is to fill the coffers of the State. There is global depression/ recession etc. but somehow everyone has to survive. The State Officials publicly agrees that the industries are going out of the State. Why ? First of all high rate of taxation. Second and foremost is harassment from the Government officials. A dealer, at times, may not mind paying even high rate of tax, it he has peace of mind and he can devote his full energy towards business. The dealers in Maharashtra are not only frustrated with market condition but also with the charge of cheating/ concealment attributed to them for no fault of theirs. I am informed few weeks back around 800 (yes eight hundred !) persons were summoned on one single day by the Enforcement Department. Can we call.......
